Position Summary
ValorC3 is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to join our development team and play a critical role in shaping the future of our enterprise data platform. This role is ideal for a strong software developer who enjoys working with data, APIs, and backend systems, and who is interested in building reliable data pipelines and analytics capabilities.
In this role, you will help design and implement systems that collect, process, and expose data from a variety of sources. Much of the work will involve developing Python-based data pipelines and services, with opportunities to contribute to backend services written in Node.js (Fastify) and other parts of our application stack. You will also be instrumental in building an enterprise-class reporting platform leveraged across the business.
Preferred candidate locations: Oklahoma City, OK; St. George, UT; Boise, ID.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines and data processing services using Python, SQL, and modern development practices.
- Integrate data from various sources, including APIs, third-party platforms, internal systems, and streaming services.
- Contribute to building and maintaining our data storage and analytics environments (e.g., PostgreSQL, data warehouse, or lakehouse platforms such as Microsoft Fabric).
- Optimize performance and cost-efficiency of data workflows, storage, and query execution.
- Collaborate with data stewards, engineers, and business teams to enforce and improve data governance practices.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and security by implementing validation checks, monitoring systems, and access controls.
- Participate in defining technical standards and best practices for data processing, APIs, and data modeling.
- Contribute to the selection and implementation of data management tools and frameworks.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or software development with a heavy focus on data management.
- Expert-level SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Experience working with modern SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehouses, and lakehouse architectures (e.g., MSSQL, Postgres, Mongo, Snowflake, MS Fabric, Databricks, Redshift).
- Proficiency with REST and/or GraphQL APIs for data ingestion and integration.
- Solid understanding of data modeling principles, including dimensional and normalized models.
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (VMWare, AWS, Azure, etc.) and related services.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Education and Certifications – Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
